Arriving in Ghana: what you need at the airport
You'll need
- Your passport
- Your eVisa or ETA, unless you can enter visa-free
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate
- Proof of where you're staying
- Your return or onward ticket
-
1
Sort out your visa first
Check whether you need a visa, an ETA or neither on the official eligibility checker. ECOWAS and AES nationals can enter without a visa. See Apply for a Ghana visa.
-
2
Check your passport
If you need an eVisa, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after you plan to leave Ghana and have at least 3 blank pages. Travel on the same passport you used to apply.
-
3
Carry your yellow fever certificate
A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into Ghana and may be checked when you arrive.
No certificate? You may be sent to airport health officials, and vaccinated there if needed. -
4
Go through immigration
Show your passport and your eVisa, ETA or visa-free status. The immigration officer decides how long you can stay. On an eVisa, that's up to 60 days. Keep your accommodation and ticket details to hand.
A visa doesn't guarantee entry. Officers at the border make the final decision. -
5
Choose the right Customs channel
Use the green channel if you only have duty-free personal belongings. Use the red channel if you're bringing goods for sale, more than the allowances below, or goods brought in temporarily.
You can bring in, duty-free, up to 375 ml of spirits, 750 ml of wine and 0.5 kg of cigarettes, cigars or tobacco in total. -
6
Declare what you need to
Declare all arms and ammunition. Electrical goods count as personal belongings only if you've used them for at least 6 months. If you carry more than US$1,000 in foreign currency, GRA says you may declare it on the Bank of Ghana form CDF 4A.
Luggage arriving separately? Declare it on arrival, or within 48 hours, on the Passenger's Unaccompanied Baggage Declaration form.
