- Proof of your profession, where it applies
- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope, at some missions
-
1
Find your nearest mission
Outside Ghana you apply at a Ghana Embassy, High Commission or Consulate General. The portal lists 105 mission application centres in 56 countries on its centres page.
Every application starts online, even at a mission. -
2
Create an account and fill in the form
Sign up at passport.mfa.gov.gh and complete the online form. Upload a photo taken in the last 6 months on a white background, with your full face and both ears visible and no glasses.
-
3
Pay the fee for your country

Fees abroad are set by each mission. Choose your country under Showing prices for on the portal to see yours. For a 32-page Regular passport it shows, for example, £180 in the UK, US$130 in the US and €120 in Germany and Italy.
Fees are non-refundable. If payment fails but money leaves your account, wait 24 to 48 hours, then contact support. -
4
Book your appointment
Book a slot at your nearest Embassy or Consulate through the portal. Most missions don't offer an express service, so standard processing applies. The 24-hour service is only available in Ghana.
-
5
Get the form signed
Print your form. Your witness must be a professional who has known you for at least 2 years and should live in your country of residence. They sign and stamp the form. Your 2 guarantors must be relatives aged 18 or over, living in Ghana or your country of residence.
Your witness can't also be one of your guarantors. -
6
Attend with your documents
Go to the mission on your appointment date with the signed form, your documents and your payment receipt. Your photo, fingerprints and signature are taken there. Everyone must attend in person, including children.
Special cases. Born abroad to Ghanaian parents: bring your foreign birth certificate and a copy of a parent's Ghana Card or passport. Dual citizens: bring your Dual Citizenship Certificate or Card and your foreign passport. Lost passport: bring a police report from the country where it was lost, a sworn affidavit, your birth certificate and your Ghana Card. -
7
Receive your passport
Your passport is returned in your self-addressed envelope or however your mission tells you. You'll get SMS and email updates, and you can track your application online with your Application ID.
Don't use middlemen. Apply only through the official portal and your mission.
